10,000 hours of practice VS. Talent!

Image
10,000 hours of practice VS. Talent: What is talent? A special endowment, often athletic, creative, or artistic aptitude. What is practice? To do or to perform often, customarily, or habitually. What is the biggest difference between these two qualities which we all have (of course in different proportions). Some would argue that talented individual are possessed by passion and “IT” comes easy to them. And this might be the case if they aren’t challenged by another talented individual. But what determines the difference between two greatly talented individuals? What happens when you match Micheal Jordan (1989) Vs. Micheal Jordan (1990)? I’ll leave you to fill in the blanks for arguments sake. (Allen Iverson suits this contrast best. A very talented Basketball player who lack the discipline to hone his passion.) My point is- whether you’re competing against others or not- competing with yourself (through practice), prioritizes your passion over tal...

Stumbling into business!

Image
stumbling into business! Every entrepreneur has a vision- and that vision has nothing do with working for someone else, Right?! An entrepreneur is someone stricken with the desire to create a working environment which allows them to express themselves uniquely and/or on a whim… an entrepreneur is someone who knows what it take to become successful but he or she lacks the proper capitol, network, training, etc… simply put- being an entrepreneur sounds great. It’s exotic and full of mystery. We choose this identity because there is no other title to claim which sums-up what it is we do versus what it is we want to do for our business. When it comes down to labeling your position you cringe and then the default sets in (I have my own business). “What do you do?” is the most common question any entrepreneur might try to dodge in order to avoid sounding egotistical. Most business owners lead with, “Hi, I’m ________- I’m a contractor.”...

Caffeinated to-boot!

Image
Some would express that caffeine is the single-most-greatest-gift provided by the universe, god, the sun, and/or ______... You fill in the blank! Others believe that caffine is disruptive to those who use/abuse it- even going so far as to refer to caffeine as an addictive drug! Most of the cases involving a negative caffeine experience comes down to one very important factor: Milligrams per dosage! One important fact to take note of is  that caffeine does alter your brains processing power. And very much like a processor in a computer, when given too much information to process you will experience an overload and inevitably- a crash... But All is not lost. Although people experience this overload of caffeine differently, the fix is simple... Know your tolerance. Just like anything else in your life- consume caffeine in moderation! Sip by sip; quarter cup, half cup, full cup... Consider your weight and size. . This book summed it up perfectly for me. The authors persused th...

Competing with Holiday!

Image
Most businesses are competing with the  holiday season and don't realise it. By "selling" during the holiday season you are corralled with every other company fighting for the customers attention. Tiss the season of giving! Most companies try too hard to cash in on  the holiday hype- that they miss their mark. Why? Because holidays come and go so quickly that most consumers are bedazzled by a barrage of exclusive offers*, limited supplies*, and the promotions which label them*- your product and/or service is no longer unique. Most consumers are immune to the strategy of baiting, so they avoid interacting with pushy promotions-  offering "the deal of the season". Promotions are expected during the holiday season, so deals* are a must. But wasting time, money, and resources trying to outshine the next company does yo littleservice. In fact, all that you would've profited went into selling! Today's consumers know what they want, and where to find it- o...
